Our October BoomScreen Monthly Roundup was hosted by Aviv Florenthal (Senior Product Manager, BoomScreen) and Dani Lowder (Principal Customer Success Manager). We walked through a month of income and applicant experience upgrades and previewed a simpler way to run criminal searches. As always, most of it came straight from your feedback.
Couldn't make it? Here's the quick version!
What's new this month
- Payroll first income verification. When an applicant says they're employed, connecting payroll is now the first option, with options for bank linking and documents still available. Payroll returns exact gross and net income along with their employer information and employment status.
- Income calculation breakdowns. Hover over the info icon next to verified gross or net monthly income on the income report to see the method and the numbers behind it. For paystubs, that's the sum of payments over the days covered, converted to a monthly figure. Works for every income method, no setup required.
- Income verification re-runs. When an applicant says they don't have income, but they actually do, send them back through income verification yourself. The original stays as its own attempt, and you're only charged once the new verification is complete. To use, open any application → Income report → Re-run report.
- Net income to rent metric. Add net income to rent to the summary at the top of a group application. To add it, open any group application → Group metrics → Edit view.
- On-demand identity verification re-runs. Request a fresh verification even after a pass, for cases like a roommate completing it on someone else's behalf. Each attempt keeps its own tab. To use, open the identity verification report on any application → Request retry.
- Document request cancellation. Close out a request you no longer need, and the applicant gets an email and a text. To cancel, open the document request banner on any application → Cancel request.
- Pet count criteria. Recommend approval or decline based on pet count, scoped to applicants, occupants, or guarantors. It works well for no-pet communities, or for routing pet owners to manual review. To add it, navigate to Screening settings → select a template → Screening criteria → add a rule for number of pets.
- New applicant-facing pet policy. Set max pets, weight limits, and restricted breeds per template, and applicants see them while they apply. It's informational, so nobody is blocked from submitting, and it works alongside any pet screening service you already use. To set it, navigate to Screening settings → select a template → set the pet policy.
- Role-based template defaults. New templates skip what each role doesn't need, like income history for occupants and housing history or vehicles for guarantors. Everything stays configurable, and existing templates keep their current settings. To update one, navigate to Screening settings → select a template → Occupant or Guarantor.
- Application group preview. Anyone joining a group sees its current members before inviting, so the same person doesn't get invited twice.
- Invitee reminders. If someone invited to an application hasn't begun, both they and the person who invited them get reminders by email and text at 24, 48, and 96 hours. Nudges stop as soon as the invitee starts.
- Redesigned housing history. Each address is its own entry with its dates at a glance, any missing period is flagged before applicants move on, and progress saves if they leave to look up an old address. Live on new applications.
